What does your body say about you?

Once they used to divide body types into apple and pear, according to where the fat was concentrated. Today there is a tendency to classify them according to four main types. Which do you belong to?

You can diet, you can do sport and influence the ratio between the amount of body fat and the amount of muscle, but it is difficult to change the basic shape of the body. Therefore we might as well accept it, learn to live with it in peace, and adopt the food, sport and clothes that make the most of it. In the past body shapes were divided into "apple" and "pear" according to where the fat was concentrated. Today there is a tendency to divide body types into four main types. "The gland that influences us the most during the nine months of pregnancy is what determines the shape of our bodies as adults and even our psychological characteristics, prominent personality traits, sensitivity to illnesses, distribution of fat in the different areas of the body, the ability to lose weight by dieting, and more" - thus maintains Dr. Yaacov Aidlin, director of the Aidlin Institute for Weight-loss and Healthful Nutrition. And these are the main points of what he says:

1. The android type
Build: Broad shoulders, relatively narrow pelvis, developed and muscular limbs. The android girls tends to be good at sport, energetic, with leadership qualities, When the android gains weight, the fat concentrates mainly in the upper stomach, waist and the chest, the legs and pelvis remain relatively slim. As more weight is gained the fat climbs to the neck and thickens the thighs.
Influence: The build develops under the influence of the adrenal gland which manufactures a relatively large amount of male hormones (which are also found in the body of women, though in relatively lower amounts) and adrenalin (which is secreted during times of anxiety and physical exertion) that gives strength, energy and is responsible for survival. 30% of women belong to this body type and they are considered rational, practical and decisive.
Sensitivity: Tendency to hypertension, high level of fat in the blood and diabetes. Among young women there is a tendency to facial skin problems (due to excess male hormones).
Advantages: No tendency to cellulite. The body skin is strong and highly dense. With the suitable diet, the weight loss is rapid.
Nutritional recommendations: To eat a lot of vegetable-based food, mainly fresh vegetables, nutritional fibers and vitamins. Raw salt should be added to every meal to improve the blood condition.
Recommended sport: Swimming that improves the heart lung endurance without enlarging the muscles of the shoulders and limbs, strengthens the spine and the body and neutralizes the tendency to a masculine gait. Work with weights in a gym is not recommended as it could accentuate the masculine appearance.

2. Gynecoid type
Build: The pelvis is wider than the shoulders. The waist is narrow. Women in this type are not particularly tall and have the classic body build which has driven men crazy throughout human history. Evolution has proven that this is the body type that attracts men because it conveys fertility. When weight is gained, it is concentrated mainly in the buttocks and the thighs. With more weight gain, the waist remains relatively slim over a long period. As more and more weight is gained the fat also rises to the upper part of the body.
Influence: The classical feminine type develops under the influence of hormones secreted by the ovaries and mainly estrogen. Most women belong to this gynecoid type. On the psychological side, the emotional, sensitive side is heightened.
Sensitivity: There is a tendency to accumulate liquids and to develop cellulite.
Advantages: The estrogen protects against vascular and cardiac diseases. Until menopause the risk of heart disease is relatively small.
Nutritional recommendation: The exchange of substances is slow and economical and it is necessary to build a balanced eating program that is split up over the whole day. This person should refrain from eating carbohydrates, increase the intake of vitamins and nutritional fibers, and also eat protein according to the following order: fish (rich in omega 3), turkey (rich in lecithin, which regulates the bad cholesterol), chicken, dairy products without sugar and low in fat, or vegetable protein. If there is a tendency to edema, the dairy products should be stopped.
Recommended physical activity: Walking, dancing, aerobics, tap dancing, steps.

3. Lymphoid type
Build: The body undulates, without a waist and with the shoulders the same width as the hips. The limbs are short and the head is round. Young girls sometimes resemble the boys. The lymphoids look plump from childhood, and when they gain weight also the limbs and joints become very thick.
Influence: The lymphoid type develops under the influence of the hypophysis and the lymph system. They have more fat cells in the body than the other types. The lymphoids are generally women who are introverts, intelligent, and have a very rich internal emotional world. Unfortunately, physical activity does not interest them at all.
Sensitivity: Lymphoids have a tendency to respiratory problems, tonsillitis and adenoids, allergic colds and skin sensitivity and also a tendency to accumulate fluids in the body.
Advantages: Lymphoids tend to lose weight rapidly, they do not tend to develop cellulite, but suffer from edema.
Nutritional recommendations: The lymphoids enjoy dairy products and this is a problem because casein (the protein of cow dairy products) overloads the lymph system and increases the accumulation of liquids. Thus despite their great love, it is recommended that they refrain from dairy products.
Recommended physical activity: Fitness room, including weight lifting. The development of muscles can help solve the problem of a slow lymph system.

4. Thyroid type
Build: The thyroids have a thin, long-boned and slender build. Even if they are not tall, they appear so. Most models belong to the thyroid type. They do not have a tendency to gain weight, they eat irregularly and generally have little appetite. The exchange of substances is wasteful, in the sense that their bodies consume a lot of energy and therefore they tend not to gain weight. They are considered lucky, extravert and particularly sociable.
Influence: During the embryonic stage they are influenced mainly by the thyroid gland.
Sensitivity: Thyroids do not have a sensitivity to a specific type of body illness, but they are sensitive emotionally, and frequently feel heavy and tired.
The thyroids tend to consume enervating food such as chocolate, candy and coffee, and become addicted to alcohol and cigarettes. All these disrupt the system of hormonal balance and the regulation of energy in the body. If they do put on weight, this is seen mainly in the buttocks area and the thighs, and they have a slight tendency to develop cellulite. Thyroids are in the high-risk category for osteoporosis.
Advantages: They have no tendency to gain weight.
Nutritional recommendation: To eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, to try switch to vegetarian food or to cut down meat.
Recommended physical activity: Mainly dancing or aerobic activity.

It's all in the head Lifestyle October 2001

According to Dr. Aidlin's method of breaking nutritional addiction, the problem of overweight starts in the head, and therefore the relief solution of "putting in less (food) and burning more (calories)" is nothing more than cosmetic treatment of the tip of the iceberg, the bulk being in the deep water of the sub-conscious.
"The complexity of the problem of being overweight stems from social-psychological reasons, where in the society of plenty extensive resources are invested in order to sell to and addict food consumers", says Dr. Yaacov Aidlin, who developed a method of breaking nutritional addiction. "The learning process of the culture of eating begins in childhood, where the parents serve as a model for emulation and engender, in most cases unwittingly, emotional dependence of the child on food. It is not uncommon to see a crying child immediately being offered a cookie or another food that he likes, in order to pacify him. In this way, the child learns that crying earns him a surprise egg, or in other words, whenever there is a hardship the compensation is food". Dr. Aidlin asserts that food has become a substitute for other satisfactions, also because of its availability. It is easy to substitute pleasures that are less available with food, and it is not surprising that many people have developed emotional dependency on food as a panacea to all the pain and frustrations. "Most people do not eat only when they are hungry, they eat because they are addicted to carbohydrates, and when a person who is addicted does not get what the body needs, he responds like a drug addict: he is tense, tired, he experiences nausea and dizziness - until he receives his dose. I do my utmost to get people to quit, not food - but pathological eating". No calorie counting Dr. Yaacov Aidlin completed his medical studies in 1982 in the USSR, and specialized in psychiatry. In 1986, after several years of work in the field, he was appointed regional doctor and served as head of psychiatry and psychotherapy. At the same time he established the first private institute of its kind where, using a unique method, he treated addictions, stuttering and psychosomatic problems. In 1990 Dr. Aidlin immigrated to Israel, and based on his extensive experience in the fields of fighting addictions he continued developing his theory of health to help break nutritional addictions. The method is based on applied psychology, medicine and practical fundamentals of Far Eastern theories. At Dr. Aidlin's institute people do not get on the scale, they do not count calories and do not speak about menus, but they take a course of seven frontal lectures, in which they learn to replace old "software" with new. "The rational approach, that speaks to the logic of the participants is very important to me", says Dr. Aidlin. "All the time one must remember that our body is our responsibility, and that the change begins in the head and with the way of life. Loss of weight is only a small part of the complete outlook, according to which everyone is responsible for his successes and for his personal happiness". "Being weighed for example is an activity that gives the person the feeling that he is being taken care of, dependent, that someone else is taking responsibility for him. I have no problem with everyone weighing themselves at home, but they must do it because it is important to them and not to me". Dr. Aidlin's course comprises three-hour meetings, during which participants learn, among other things, the laws of nature and the principles natural hygiene, the rules of behavior and correct nutrition, cleansing the body of toxins, control and self-discipline, and breaking addiction to food by changing eating habits, without starving. In the course they learn correct food combinations, because according to Aidlin a person puts on or loses weight not only because he eats calorie-rich food but because the body accumulates toxic waste and fluids and as a result of the incorrect food combinations. "I teach the physiological tools that are related to the digestive system and tools for cleansing the body of toxins. In the third lesson of the course I begin giving 'antibiotics' against infection of the intelligence, and this based on the assumption that I am the teacher of the participant and not his doctor. I help the person develop the tools that help him feel better and that help him not to need compensation in the form of food."

"The Duty Guru"  La'isha September 2001

200 people fill the auditorium. They do not receive a menu. They look at Dr. Aidlin who gives part performance, part lecture, part commentary. And they lose weight.

Let's begin from the end. It is many years since I have felt so special about my body. The wonder took six weeks and nine kg. As a bonus I received a lot of renewed vigor, smoother skin and new light in my eyes. This is the testimony of old friends who have not seen me in recent months. A sort of small wonder. Everything began, as usual with me, from writing. I had been given the task of clarifying the story of a course to change one's life style directed by Dr. Yaacov Aidlin. According to the reports that reached us, large gatherings take place, impressive amounts of weight are lost, and there are associated health bonuses. I went to an introductory lecture and didn't understand anything. I interviewed several people who told me how their lives had changed and it was still not clear to me what made this method more special than other methods, most of which I had already tried myself - with limited success, I must admit. In order to try and understand I had no option but to join their course, which meant seven meetings, in other words six weeks, one three-hour course per week. (This takes place in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and costs NIS 1,480). What one has to invest for an article!!!

Dr. Aidlin is a stand-up artist, a wasted actor, he appears before an auditorium of 200 people and holds them rapt with academic lectures which finely detail his principles of digestion, which are based, according to him on the most current research. More than anything he looks like a preacher, almost religious. He is seen as a guru by those who changed their lives thanks to him, and he sounds real and honest. And so he carries away the masses. Dr. Aidlin studied psychiatry in Russia, and perhaps because of this he is qualified to combine tools that directly penetrate the subconscious, without your feeling it. He intertwines key sentences and metaphors, sometimes childish, sometimes very amusing and incessantly repeats the basic concepts. You may find this very annoying, and you can see clearly the manipulation - welcome, it should be stressed - that he resorts to in order to build motivation. I for example developed a feeling of disgust with uncontrolled eating, eating which was friendly for many years and a revulsion to the unsuccessful combination of foods which causes the food to lie in the stomach too long and to ferment like "a dead cat" (this is how Aidlin describes food that is not digested under optimal conditions).
During the lecture, Dr. Aidlin changes his voice tones, he groans, he sighs, he utters turns of phrase that are a combination of high Hebrew and innocent errors of someone who has learnt the Hebrew language with great effort. There is no group dynamics at the meetings, no sharing of experiences. Only during the break do the successful share their experiences with those who feel it is difficult for them. The idea is that if the majority can do it, everyone can, and the method works even if you don't understand how.

According to Dr. Aidlin, a weight loss campaign must be run like a blitzkrieg: fast, strong and elegantly. Dr. Aidlin thinks it is socio-economic hypocrisy to assert that weight loss should be moderate and slow. No one, he claims, fears the fact that people get fat all at once, so why should you think that it is dangerous to lose weight quickly? He does not recommend a specific menu and does not weigh anyone. Everyone builds for himself the menu that suits him and takes responsibility for what happens with it, but the principles for building the menu are clear. Calorie counting is not the top of the list. The big war of Dr. Aidlin is waged against carbohydrates, in direct contradiction to the concept behind the bread diet, which was so popular in recent months.
According to Aidlin, the index that guides the method is the "Glucmik index" - that is the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood. The idea - completely simplified - is that the higher the blood sugar level, the higher the insulin, which the body secretes in order to overcome excess sugar and to store it in the liver and after that in the fat deposits in the body. All food and drink (except for water) is converted into glucose in the body because this is the only fuel that the body recognizes in order to operate the machine of the organism. Carbohydrates immediately become sugar, and even vegetables, and even fruit, become sugar but to a lesser extent. Proteins are somewhere in the middle, depending on the type.
There are three menu tracks with Dr. Aidlin. In all the tracks you stop eating at 5 p.m.! Sounds awful, doesn't it? But if you try and brave it you will discover that the next morning you awake with extraordinary energy, your sleep was light and pleasant and you have a good feeling throughout the day. Gradually you discover further that it is possible to eat less and less fruit during the morning. Or that two small plates of salad (with avocado and oil, what fun!) are sufficient until 5 p.m. Every morning you get on the scale and see the loss in front of your eyes. This is a feeling of euphoria that is hard to describe. Dr. Aidlin refers to these days as the days of cleaning, of inner peeling and of the anti-aging process. He claims that the absence of food in the stomach naturally stimulates the growth hormone. This is the same hormone that has become so popular in recent years. Taking it from an external source -he says - is dangerous. According to him, growth hormone that is taken in pills stimulates carcinogenic processes, while activating the growth hormone from the self-source causes a process of rejuvenation. You may believe it or not, but you cannot argue with success. By the way, I am only one of 6000 people who have taken the course and lost weight. A high percentage of these were once diabetic, and no longer are.

"
3 kg. less by the summer"   Menta April 2001

Tips to lose 3 kg. without a strict diet and without changing the life style drastically, by Dr. Aidlin:

The minute before you open the fridge in order to satisfy your craving, ask yourself what need the slice
of cake will satisfy for you, and if it will help you achieve your goal. This may help you give up this food and achieve better control over what you eat.
Remove from your menu foods containing white flour and sugar, and starchy vegetables such as

 potatoesand corn.
Start the morning with a glass of water, to help the digestive system. Follow this with low fat yogurt
with fresh fruit, such as strawberries or applesauce. If you are really hungry, have another portion of fruit before
Start the morning with a glass of water, to help the digestive system. Follow this with low fat yogurt
with fresh fruit, such as strawberries or applesauce. If you are really hungry, have another portion of fruit before lunch, such as apple, pear or citrus. In the second half of the day eat a meal rich in fresh vegetables, with fish, eggs, chicken or beef.
Remember: even if you ate more than you planned to eat, make sure that your last meal of the day is
between 5-7 in the evening.
If it is hard for you to remain at home and restrain yourself when you know the fridge if full of goodies,
go out and find yourself experiences and sensations in other areas.

"They will help you lose weight. Perhaps"  Menta December 2000

For years Adina A (43), secretary from Rishon Lezion and mother of three was overweight. Half a year ago there was a revolution in her life after she met Dr. Aidlin (40) a psychiatrist from Jerusalem, who developed his own method for losing weight.

Within half a year Adina lost 28 kg. "Thanks to Dr. Aidlin and his method I learnt to control my body and to examine the quality of the food that went into my mouth. Dr. Aidlin simply spoke to my logic. He sounded convincing, intelligent, amusing and not commercial".

Dr. Aidlin's course includes a series of lectures, during which he explains how the digestive system works, teaches various methods to overcome the craving for food, and how to eat properly. Correct eating, he explains, must be based on a separation between types of food. "Each type- carbohydrates, proteins, acids or fats -requires different digestion", he explained. "Therefore it is not advisable to mix them. When you do not separate, the food isn't well digested, it decays in the intestines and causes an accumulation of toxins and weight gain. As soon as you stop mixing foods, you lose weight naturally."

Dr. Aidlin's lectures are delivered in simple and friendly language, peppered with a lot of humor. Most of the course participants are educated -  university lecturers, accountants and doctors.

"People who come to me show amazing ignorance regarding nutrition", says Dr. Aidlin. "They believe that their weight gain stems from physiological causes, and likewise their feelings of hunger, and it doesn't occur to them that the problem is eating habits. I explain to them that in order for a person to feel real hunger he must abstain from food for at least 18 hours, because only then is there a drop in the blood sugar level, and the brain begins to signal that it needs ‘fuel'".

How do you teach people to stop wanting food?
"
I explain to them that they have developed an emotional dependence on food, as an answer to all the pain and frustrations. As soon as they understand this, they are on the road to being cured. For this to work I tell them that every time they think about food, they should begin to think about what is torturing them and it works, because within a short time they stop eating without control".

"To give up food like alcohol"  Maariv 1998

It is possible to eat from the head and to be far more satiated, claims psychiatrist Dr. Yaacov Aidlin, who developed a method to cure addiction to food which constitutes the antithesis to dieting. This is a course in the form of frontal lectures during which you don't smell food, don't see menus and are not weighed, a kind of marathon that continues six weeks, three hours per meeting. The participants learn how to be the ideal dietician and psychologist for themselves; what are the breaking points in dieting; why you shouldn't fight hunger but seek the root of the problems; what is the biochemical process that occurs from the first bite and until it is expelled and how to replace the old "software" with new, that will move the dial of the home scale.

According to Dr. Aidlin all existing methods are based on the "oven theory". In other words, suggestions to eat smaller amounts of food in order to burn up more calories and lose weight.

How can a verbal explanation alone, through lectures, be effective for a diet?
"I give food for thought, which allows the person to think independently based on the scientific knowledge he receives from me. I do not believe in instant solutions, of the dietician who gives menus, counts calories and becomes a kindergarten teacher. One develops dependence on this kind of treatment and then becomes addicted to the number that the home scale shows".

Why do you use the term ‘cure' from food, if in the end one does not abstain from it?
"One must be cured from food that is not healthful and is addictive, which is not well digested. People come to me at the beginning of the course poisoned. In their bodies decomposed food is decaying and they must learn what not to eat. I offer them "cleaning materials" which cure them of the hunger feeling that bothers them and allow them self control in their thoughts and in the choice of food".

Is physical activity an essential part of changing the habits?
"In the initial stage we do not get into a training schedule, because everyone who is significantly overweight may be at high risk for heart disease or blood circulation problems. If he goes into the gym and begins working out intensively, he runs the risk of a CVA or heart attack".

Why, contrary to popular diets, do you consider carbohydrates a drug?
"Carbohydrates cause an increase in the blood sugar level within 20-30 minutes, followed by a drastic fall. The two processes, the rise and the fall, are addictive in the sensation than ranges from euphoria to further craving for food. By contrast, proteins for example cause more moderate reactions in the blood over several hours, depending on the amount of fat in them which slows down the digestive process".

"With Dr. Aidlin's method you lose 9 kg. within 2 weeks" Yediot Haifa  January 1997

"I lost 9 kg. within two weeks and by the time I finished the course lasting 6 weeks, I had lost another 6 kg." said S, senior employee at Refael who is prohibited from being interviewed. A conversation with Dr. Aidlin highlights the possibility that it is even possible to sell a refrigerator to the Eskimos. After a few minutes you are convinced and not only because of his special tone that is accompanied by considerable dramatic skills, but also because of the logic in what he says. His students almost worship him. This is also clear. There are visible results. To lose such an amount of weight and to learn how to maintain the achievement, and this you learn, is a fact that will convince, as we said, Eskimos to buy a refrigerator.

The students receive food combinations, the main part of which are vegetables and fruits, which according to Dr. Aidlin "are first and foremost to cleanse the body of toxins". The student receives a table of food combinations and immediately after the first meeting and hearing the principles of Dr. Aidlin's method makes up a menu for himself. This is the homework that must be completed and explained to the teacher in the second lesson.
It should be noted that Dr. Aidlin's meetings are not aimed at group dynamics and there is no soul bearing, but listening to and sharing experience with the results. From a conversation with a client it appears that at the end of the course not only had she lost weight but also her life style and concept had changed. She became more moderate and learned to think differently.

 "Yaacov Aidlin's Ladder"   Kol Ha'ir 1997

Dr. Aidlin has an institute for holistic health, and he is the inventor of a special method to cure addictions and lose weight, modestly called "The Dr. Aidlin Method".
"In order to be happy", explains Dr. Aidlin, "you must learn only one thing, the secret of happiness. You must understand that everything happens in the present. The past is over, the future hasn't happened yet, so everything is in the present and everything happens in the head. What we have now is the present and the memories of the past and the fantasies of the future. We must understand that life is a mirror reflection of the thoughts. So everything begins with the choice, what we choose to think".
As Aidlin talks I suddenly remember that once, 3 years ago, I called him myself. This was after I was amazed to meet one of my acquaintances who, following treatment with him lost some 40 kg. and at the same time stopped smoking.
His method is a 6-week course. Every week the students whom he calls "colleagues" meet for a 3-hour marathon, during which they learn first of all how to change habits. "I teach how to change the lifestyle, how to become independent, how to be active and not passive. I first teach psychological tools related to the digestive process and the rules of cleaning the digestive system and preventing self-poisoning. Then in the third week, I start giving antibiotics against "infection of the intelligence".

Infection of the intelligence?
"Yes people with this problem in a metaphorical form have "infection of the intelligence". I want to cure this infection, so we are dealing with applied psychology, with building motivation, reinforcing motivation and self-control".

"He helps them shrink"  La'isha April 1997

There are no scales in the clinic of Dr. Aidlin, diet specialist. He says: "I do not know how much each person has lost. I don't weight them and don't ask them to report back. I believe this insults their intelligence. My role is not to applaud the one who succeeds, or to reprimand the one who does not meet the task he has taken on himself.  All I do is teach people to take responsibility for themselves". This is the reason he does not refer to weight or weight gain, and is also willing to teach thin people how to change their lifestyles, to attain achievement and to be healthy and happy. His method is not devoid of effort. There is no "abracadabra" and no magic. But whoever adopts his method and lives by it sees him as a real "guru".
His method is built on conventional medicine, applied psychology and fundamentals of Far Eastern philosophy, without the mysticism. " I translate scientific language into human language so that the subconscious will listen to what is said. I don't enter the brain through the main door but through its backdoor" says Dr. Aidlin. "I don't teach to lose weight but to improve health, to cleanse the body, to reach the desired weight and to control things. Everything starts from the head, like with addiction. I don't believe that you can live to 120 on a low calorie diet".
The manner of payment -this is the essence of the method he instills in his students who he refers to as "colleagues": correct combinations of natural food, a respectable manner of eating. "Not while standing, not by snacking. Sitting down and eating like the king of England, at a table, with a knife and fork, enjoying each bite and swallowing. And most important: to stop looking for excuses, to remember that our body is our responsibility, and to change the head and the lifestyle.
"I don't give treatment. I teach people to understand first of all that everyone is responsible for himself. Weight loss is only one small part of the picture. The first thing we must learn is to take responsibility for success and happiness. As soon as someone undergoes a process of change in the way he thinks he must make a personal adjustment".
"Every type of food requires a different type of digestion, and therefore it is preferable not to mix them", he says. "People gain weight not only because they eat large quantities of calories, but because the body accumulates the toxic waste and fluids, because of the incorrect combinations. I teach how to build a menu in such a way as to allow the food to be digested in the intestines in an optimal manner, and how to eat in order to prevent decay in the intestines".

"Diet specialist: Nutrition is not a problem of the mouth"  Yediot Haifa  December 1997

"… You must sit and eat like the king of England, at a table, with a knife and fork, to enjoy each bite and swallow, and most important: to stop looking for excuses, to remember that our body is our responsibility and to change the head and the life style",, this according to diet specialist Dr. Yaacov Aidlin, director of the "Aidlin Institute" who has successfully run courses for nutrition habits and correct eating. Aidlin, born in Siberia is a psychiatrist who specializes in treating addictions and curing them. Although he knew that the market of diet patients was saturated, he decided to devote himself to this subject. Aidlin ." I don't give a diet to lose weight but teach how to reach the desired weight and to maintain it. To improve health through changing eating habits , to cleanse the body of toxins, to stop heating food, to start truly enjoying eating, and it all begins with changing the manner of thinking, though the head".
Aidlin's course participants are not weighed on s scale, there is not weight measure that judges the parents plus or minus. Says Aidlin" "Weighing gives the person the feeling that he is being treated, dependent, that someone else is taking responsibility for him as though he was a child, narrow minded, I don't mind if they weigh themselves at home. It is important for them, not for me".
It is on this psychological base that Aidlin's marathon course is built, where each course meeting lasts 3 hours. During the course the students receive a table of food combinations, with a large part occupied by vegetables and fruits, which cleanse the body of toxins.
The student himself composes the menu and in this way completes a kind of homework. Aidlin's theory is founded on the principle of scientific medicine, drawing on strong  fundamental from the east/ "Man's enemy is the adherence to a routine that causes automatic thinking. A person should attain a lifestyle that gives him the motivation to aspire to happiness, and this is what they learn in the course".

"She lost weight, and lost her role"  La'Isha January 1995

"For the first time in my life I was refused a position because I was not fat enough" says Ben Chor (minus 45 kg).
"The process I am undergoing", says Varda Ben Chor, "is an intellectual trip for me, exciting and even enjoyable", she declares and immediately adds: "I know, that what I am saying sounds like missionary preaching, but I truly do not remember difficulties during the treatment, only a process with a  lot of essence."
Even today she is not thin. And even if you were to borrow some more kilograms from her body, she probably would not become a skinny woman. But her mood is buoyant. "While in the past I tried to start a diet regimen and failed again and again, this time finally I have taken care of myself. During the course of my life I have made many changes and was even willing to die in order to give birth to a healthy daughter, but I simply could not lose weight. This time I changed from within. It seems that I have reached a place where I no longer need my fat."
Her former husband is the one who brought her the salvation in the form of Dr. Aidlin, who she sees to day as a admired guru.

Today is your mouth blocked?
"Absolutely not. Between us, how can you block your mouth. That is the bad thing in the various diets. They block the mouth and there is nowhere for the steam to escape. There are days that I eat a lot and "spoil", and there are days when I correct the "deviations". And most important, I do not succumb.
"Today I feel, for the first time, that they are taking care of me and not my fat and that I have a caregiver that I can rely on with all my weight", she laughs with a full mouth, "I feel that someone is talking to me, toVarda the girl, the one who sought in food attention and happiness. Today I understand her and also altered my habits in order not to play the same role in my life and not to use it as compensation or sympathy.
"Dr. Aidlin never asked me my weight and how much I lost. He doesn't even have a scale in the room. I receive from him tools for coping. With his help I understand the processes and the change that I am undergoing."

"To be fat -goes against nature"  Sha'ar Lemathil  May 1995

"In the holistic method that I use I also draw on methods from the Far East. I always seek an approach that will be my approach. I take from every method the things that appeal to me. The rational approach, that speaks to the patient's logic, is very important to me. When I work with people, I do not give them orders. I  think aloud together with the person himself and try to identify with him. I give the patient information and food for thought. When I give examples, I give the person possibilities to look at the situation with different eyes.
Every person enters the world with the chance of being happy. In man, happiness is composed of enjoyment and pleasure. But a person must also suffer a little, in order to know that he is happy: in order to be able to compare between suffering and happiness.
A person is born with all the "instructions for use" in order to feel good, and so he needs to develop tools that help him feel good. When a person is healthy, he can think also about enjoyment. If he doesn't have enjoyment, he seeks ways to fill the void, and then, for example, he eats too much. I work independently, I am a teacher to the patient, I am not a doctor. I tell him: I will teach you how to be happy and how to be healthy. When you succeed with a patient, he becomes your ambassador. When everyone sees that he has lost weight, they want to know how it happened".

"Benediction on Deliverance"    Tsafon Ha'ir May 1995

The story of Dr. Aidlin, psychotherapist, new immigrant from Siberia who cures addictions is testimony to the fact that nothing can stand before will, or if you wish, before the will to be thin, because in Israel he deals mainly with curing reckless eating. And the evidence that walks on two legs, the ambassadors of good will of the method, whet the curiosity: how does he do it?

What is special about your method for curing addiction to reckless eating?
"According to my method I do not work as a doctor, but rather more like a teacher, who works artistically. I combine a scientific lecture with artistic theater. My goal is not to treat a problem, but I help the person mature and overcome problems, in order to achieve self-control. I only try to help the person acquire information. I adopt the method of persuasion, with the rational cooperation of the audiences, using images.
The manner of persuasion allows person to think, to view things differently from how they viewed them previously. With me they learn philosophy. Nutrition and holistic health. They receive a manner of thinking, that will allow them to attain self-control and to receive tools and means which they can adapt to themselves.

Does your method entail  dieting?
"
The word diet does not appear in my lexicon. In my lectures, I never talk about weight. I do not know how many kilograms each person has lost. A diet is punishment. It is difficult, it is boring, they gain and lose weight like an accordion. With me there is no diet. I educate the person to accept everything and to know how to manage without being a kleptomaniac. To enjoy and to be released".

What else do you teach?
I teach correct nutrition, consumption of various food combinations, which allow the person to eat correctly, healthfully and to release the garbage in the body".

"A fat woman is an aberration"    Signon  September 1995

Dr. Aidlin studied conventional medicine in Russia and did his PhD. in psychology and BA in psychiatry. Today he deals with holistic medicine, and the course he gives is according to him a series of university lectures, in which the patients are his students. In general terms, he says that we eat incorrectly, need strong willpower in order to change the eating habits of years, and that before beginning we must at least cleanse the body and then maintain the correct food combinations. Yaacov explains: "I teach patients to listen to the user instructions of the organism, of nature that surrounds us".
"
There is an introductory meeting, at no charge, in which I explain that you have to invest in my course. Not everyone is willing to invest. We meet many people  who want to lose weight but who are not willing to make an effort. After the lecture the course beings, which I teach. What do I teach? It is difficult to explain. It is like driving lessons. I teach self-control".

So in fact you cure an addiction?
Right. I cure the addiction to overeating. The course teaches how to cleanse the body and the soul. I tell people that our body is like our home. Right a house needs to be cleaned after the guests leave? So too the body. Guests come, which is the food, and stay. After they leave we clean the house. Because if we don't clean it, the garbage accumulates, and there is no room left in the garbage bin to receive more guests. In order to do this we need mental strength and certain knowledge. I give them my life patterns, my motto, and each one takes from it what he wants".

What about physical activity?
"This is not necessary in the beginning. A fat person who comes to me, for him raising his arms is physical exercise, these are weights of kilograms. I will not send him to do aerobics, which is the only activity that reduces fat. It is possible to swim, after losing weight. Walking is always recommended, but not strenuously. There are fat people who do not manage to lose weight. Genetically fat. This can be diagnosed: the fat people who diet but do not lose weight, and when they lose a little their organism does not manage to burn the fat. It sounds simple, but in principle the explanation is that their exchange of materials works differently. We can help, but this requires a great deal of patience. It is necessary to shock the metabolic system".

"Divide and Rule"  Zmanim Modernim  October 1995

Dr. Yaacov Aidlin is a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, hypnotist, and in the past four years, since immigrating to Israel, he cures people of addictions -mainly addictions to pathological eating. With him people lose 30, 40, 50 kilograms. It is only necessary to learn to separate foods, and to receive from him the strength to persist.
Every device, points out Dr. Aidlin, has instructions for use. Likewise the human body, like a machine, has instructions for use. It is only necessary to follow the instructions in order for this machine to work properly.
"Most people do not eat because they are hungry", he explains, "most eat because they are addicted to carbohydrates. And when someone is addicted to carbohydrates and does not receive them, he reacts like a person on drugs. He feels angry, nervous, nauseous, dizzy, tired, until he puts into his mouth the chocolate, pasta or steak. I cure people from eating like this in a manner that I call the ‘scientific theater of health'. I do not treat people, I do not give instructions, do not weigh them. I give people the possibility to understand nature and themselves, through images".

How do you cure people of addiction to food?
"I work on the logic and understanding of the person. On their subconscious, and on my ability to influence their way of thinking.
I use scientific facts, add methods from the Far East -but only the techniques, without the mystical side -and I draw on psychotherapy. I do it all not in order to wean people off food, but to cure them of pathological eating".

You recommend chewing starchy food well. Why?
"
Starch which is not digested decays in the intestines and causes heartburn, gases and digestive problems. In order to digest starch we need the enzyme phetyaline, found in saliva. Whoever does not want to gain weight must chew the bread, pasta, lentils and potatoes well, in order to give the mouth the opportunity to create enough petialyne. This causes the stomach to secrete a neutral juice, which allows the petialyne to be digested. It is important to chew bread, chips and pizza well, more so than meat, which is digested in the stomach".

"A gift from grandma"  Nashua October 1995

About half a year ago I interviewed Dr. Aidlin. Among his theories he tells me that there are fat people who cannot lose weight, or whose weight loss will be so slow that generally they give up after a few attempts, and will not come back to any workshops concerned with dieting. This is because of genetics. Whoever "inherited" fat will have difficulty losing it, and it is not important how much he will torture himself.
I checked the issue with several experts in the field. The general consensus was that yes there is genetics and no, it will not interfere with someone who really wants to lose weight.
I returned to Dr. Yaacov Aidlin, whose special weight loss method which he developed deals in fact with curing addiction. "Weight gain is an addiction, the addiction to pathological, modern eating. We eat what the supermarket tells us to eat. Food is raw material which we put into the body. We in the west have food that contains more fats than ever. It is a function of supply".

What about genetics?
"Obviously it exists, and I still adhere to what I said once. It is correct that today there is more of a tendency for people to give up quickly, and to say, ‘I will not lose weight because I inherited the genes'. This is an undesirable phenomenon, and in most cases it is an excuse".
"From my experience, a very small percentage, perhaps 4% of the population, cannot lose weight, or will have great difficulty losing weight, because their metabolism is slow. There are people who are built like this genetically, where their metabolism builds fat in the tissues, and if someone is born to fat parents chances are that they will be fat.
"On the other hand, I believe that there is no one in the world who cannot lose even one gram. We should not forget that there is the psychological aspect of overeating. A person does not eat because of how hungry he is, but rather because he feels something missing in his social environment, despair, disappointment, some emotional experience, which cause him to become addicted to alcohol, to drugs or to food as a compensation. In most cases where people do not lose weight it is not because of a physiological problem but generally because of a psychological  problem. Distress in life affects us".

"Stop counting calories"   Had Hakrayot"  December 1995

In a basic course that lasts 18 hours the participants learn about the chemical processes of the digestive system and how to control them.
"People in our days do not understand the feeling of hunger", explains Dr. Aidlin, "they eat according to the level of their pockets and relate to food as a means of enjoyment and entertainment that meets various needs, which are not at all related to the feeling of hunger".
Dr. Aidlin has developed a theory and method of curing overeating. In his approach he has combined general knowledge in medicine, practical fundamentals of theories from the Far East and his personal experience as a boy. "In the curing courses I always say that everything depends on faith. People manage to do things because they believe in themselves, this is the inner strength of the person. And this is my motto".

What are the principles of your method?
"My method is holistic. I reach the person's body through his soul. Our organism is only a house, not more. The body is a means to give the soul the possibility to enjoy life or to feel torture from the place where it is. I maintain that it is impossible to change anything in the organism, if the person does not change in his consciousness as a thinking person.  If you do not change mentally, through thinking, self image and knowledge, nothing will happen".

How do people change?
"I approach the person through his logic. My theory is a combination of many facets. It includes understanding physiology and the digestive system, and choosing food combinations out of knowledge. In the glass of coke you drank now, for example, there are about 300 calories. It is not the calories that interest me, but what will happen to the food or drink that will pass through the chemical plant in our organism. The organism is not only a power station, it is a complex structure, with precise chemical laws, and it is important that the food that enters it will be able to pass through the chemical process in the correct manner".

You use a lot of images

"Yes, I teach through images. I take science and teach it through the back door -imagery -and this helps the person be more aware of things. The imagery allows the person to relate to himself differently. A person must love himself, and then he can be happy and even give of himself to others".
"The course is like a voyage in which the  person does not only undergo a change in body but also in spirit. He acquires physiological tools, such as breaking the addiction to food that is not digested and only poisons and causes physical  illness: asthma, diabetes, arthritis. The goal is that the person will attain a high level of independence, will become his own psychologist, will understand what is happening to him and what lifestyle to build in order to be successful and happy.

Does the course help people to be cured from certain diseases?

"Sick people also participate in the course, who through the process improve their health. They do not break their contact with their treating physician.
I help people who suffer from high blood pressure, cholesterol and from psychosomatic conditions such as asthma".

"I lived my life with my hands tied behind me"  Nashim July 1994

Varda Ben Chor lost 37 kg. in seven months. Two years ago Geula Becher weighed 114 kg. Since then she has lost 47 kg.
They were treated by Dr. Yaacov Aidlin, psychotherapist who specialized in curing  addictions, stuttering and weight loss. He does not give a diet, but only teaches how to think differently. The results speak for themselves.

What method do you use?

"My treatment method is built on a foundation of conventional medicine and psychotherapy, with which I combine eastern imagery theory - Indian and Chinese, clean of mysticism, and my senses and intuition. I work with an open mind and try to be a guide to my patients. I give them the direction and influence their initiative, with the aim of making them independent.
Today most of my work is in reducing excess weight. Why? Because you see the results and there is a lot of satisfaction from the work. Vered and Geula are simply walking recommendations".

What diet did you make up for them?

"I am not a dietician and I also do not discuss the diet with my patients. I even don't ask them their weight. I teach how to eat correctly, when to eat and in what manner. We also work on food combinations, and mainly teach to enjoy food and to fall in love with healthful food".
"With me everything begins with the head and the motivation of the patient. For each one I choose the manner that suits him, but most of the work is on inner discipline and self-awareness. The goal is to change the person's living habits, so that he will feel comfortable and happy, and will not think that he is on a diet."
"When I began the treatment", says Geula Becher, I said: It is enough for me to lose 20 kg. But Dr. Aidlin said: See how your motivation will increase. And he was right. I hope to lose another 10 kg. Even my skin has become more beautiful because of the diet. I feel like I received two lives: the life before and the life after Dr. Aidlin. He gave me a new life. Perhaps this sounds like a cliché, but it is true".
